Volunteering in Austria - European Solidaritycorps
„Don Bosco Volunteers Austria“ offers volunteering opportunities (ten months, September to June) focused on education, social work, youth and pastoral care.
A volunteer contributes in the host institutions by supporting the educational programmes, leisure activities, community building, public relations or charity events.
Paired with a community that needs the skills and experience of the respective volunteer, the work done will be of vital importance. Volunteers will gain new skills and have experiences that will help them grow and develop as a person and in their work.
For the year 2023-24 there are five volunteering opportunities:

- Hostel for students, project for refugees, youth centre, office of the Salesian Youth Movement, parish
- Community with 11 Salesians, 8 staff members, 50 volunteers
Activities: Assistance in the education programs, collaboration in environmental projects of SYM, Support in administrative tasks and building services, Support in regular youth pastoral activities), Projects and Public Relations.
ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
Since 30 years the Salesians of Don Bosco have been offering orientation days for school classes. We give pupils the space to ask themselves questions about life, togetherness and faith. We offer age-appropriate methods and current topics in order to be able to tie in with the lifeworld of young people. Depending on the topic, we work with methods from different pedagogical disciplines (social, religious, play, experiential, environmental, theatre pedagogy, etc.). Through the various dimensions of methodological engagement, it is possible to accompany young people holistically and to respond to the interests of the young people. Don Bosco Volunteers offers many volunteering opportunities. The target group are especially kids and youngsters. Volunteers of the European Solidarity Corps contribute their youthful dynamics and they are positively present and close to kids and youngsters. Their presence opens a space for mutual learning processes and underlines the European idea.
ACCOMMODATION, FOOD AND TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS
The volunteer lives in a “shared flat” in rooms of the student hostel of the Don Bosco Network in the city centre (Vienna) https://studentenheim.donbosco.at/en/. He/she has a double room (shared with another volunteer) with shower and bathroom. There is also a big community room for the volunteers and the other facilities of the student accommodation can be used as well. Food: Our host organisations organise food in different ways. Transport arrangements: The means by transport for the arrival in Austria will be organised with the office of DB-Volunteers.
TRAINING DURING THE ACTIVITY
The participants join the obligatory trainings (On Arrival, Midterm) organised by the Austrian National Agency. Additionally Don Bosco Volunteers organise for the volunteers of the organisation three trainings: 4-day trip to Turin for our national and international volunteers, one-day study programme on educational issues and a weekend for reflexion.

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
“Don Bosco Sozialwerk” in Vienna is a Salesian centre for refugees with homes, counselling and training programs with circa 50 staff members. Activities for volunteers are assistance in the educational programs, companionship in the homes (housekeeping, free time activities, accompaniment to doctors and appointments with authorities, etc.) and support in administrative tasks and building services. Don Bosco Volunteers offers many volunteering opportunities. The target group are especially kids and youngsters. The tasks of the volunteers are, for example, the organizational help for a day of games and fun, the educational support of young refugees, sports and leisure activities with children and young people or the organization of joint excursions. European Solidarity Corps volunteers bring their youthful vibrancy and are positively present and close to children and young people. Their presence opens up a space for mutual learning processes and underlines the European idea.

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
Don Bosco Fulpmes offers students of the HTL Fulpmes a temporary home for mechanical engineering. The house offers a lot to really feel at home and to master school: super food, learning coaching, competent guidance and many leisure activities. Currently, 150 young people live in the dormitory during the week and 25 more students from the surrounding area take advantage of the daily learning coaching in the evening. In the institution is also located a youth centre for youngsters between 12 and 16 years. It is open every Friday and Saturday and offers a lot of free time activities. Don Bosco Volunteers offers many volunteering opportunities. The target group are especially kids and youngsters. Volunteers of the European Solidarity Corps contribute their youthful dynamics and they are positively present and close to kids and youngsters.
